Mackenzie grew up in an emotionally and verbally abusive home, mostly stemming from his mother. However, his dad was a bystander and never stopped it- so he holds resentment for him, as well. He left home at a young age (around 14-15) and did his best to survive. He was a high-school drop out, which affected his academics, but later went on to get a GED. Another important event from his childhood was when he accidentally turned his friend into solid gold as a child, which permanently changed his friend for life despite the process eventually being reversed. This led to a social isolation for Mackenzie.
